Music Without Borders
Kruger Brothers and
the Gibson Brothers

Brother duets in roots music are nothing new, but The Gibson Brothers and The Kruger Brothers found themselves in a situation at the 2019 edition of DelFest in Cumberland, MD that made them start thinking that 2+2 might just equal more than 4. The Gibson Brothers released a critically acclaimed project in early 2019 produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. The project combined all the elements of the sibling harmonies and country music sensibilities we’ve come to expect from The Gibson Brothers, yet took them into a dimension beyond the fields of bluegrass they’ve been roaming for many years.
Meanwhile, The Kruger Brothers have long experimented with their sound, collaborating with string quartets, ensembles and full symphonies with their sophisticated take on roots music. What many don’t realize is that both Jens and Uwe are accomplished electric guitar players. So it was that when The Gibson Brothers invited Jens and Uwe onstage at Delfest during their Mockingbird set, a little magic happened. “Let’s do more of this” the two brother pairs exclaimed.
It’s not just feel-good music because of combining two New York state farm kids with Swiss-German immigrants who were anointed by Doc Watson some 20+ years ago - it’s great music by any measure that will span the gamut from acoustic bluegrass to fully electric country rock.
